My name is Brady Mosberger and I’m a junior at Allegheny College. I have held multiple positions within Phi Psi, namely recruitment chair. Throughout my experience as a Phi Psi, I have encountered a few common questions that I aim to answer here.
Why should I join Greek Life?
Greek life is not only a gateway, but a foundation for many people. It provides innumerable opportunities for networking not only to make friends in other organizations, but with alumni as well. Many of my brothers have received jobs and internships from Phi Psi alumni. On average, members of Greek life graduate at higher percentages than undergraduates who never partook. Also, members of Greek life graduate with higher GPAs than students who remained unaffiliated throughout college. Greek life offers a structured system for undergraduates to learn and develop in. Holding leadership positions can bolster anyone’s resume, and the operational and interpersonal experience gained from taking part in a Fraternity cannot be understated. The opportunities of philanthropy and service to the community offer so much for your spirit, as it feels amazing to help those in need.
What Makes Phi Psi stand out?
Phi Psi stands out because our brotherhood is one that encourages individuality. There is no such thing as an average or stereotypical Phi Psi. What brings us together is our strong personal bonds to one another. This is made especially possible due to the fact that we attend a small college, and thus belong to a small chapter. This gives each brother the opportunity to deeply love and know each and every one of his brothers. This brotherhood is treated with the utmost care by our members, who would do anything to help a brother in need.
This brotherhood is the strongest support system on our campus, of which I am certain. It isn’t just the core memories, or best days of my life that I’ve shared with my brothers, but also my lowest points. College can be a difficult time for everyone as it can be immensely stressful, but having a support system to build you up is invaluable. This past year, when I was stressed, or down, I knew I had over a dozen people who loved me unconditionally in my house. I knew that they had my back, and would pick me up if I came to them. The confidence and morale boost from that alone is enough to make you feel like you can run through a wall.
We pride ourselves on the notion that we are not members of a frat, but of a Fraternity. There is a key difference in that mentality, and it sets us apart from many other fraternities nationally. This isn’t just some social club, but rather a family that strives to perpetuate the highest ideals of our Fraternity.
What is it like living in the house?
Living in our house is the best part of the whole experience for many people. It manages to simultaneously feel like a year-long sleepover with your dozens of best friends, while also feeling like a home, and a family. The constant flow of daily memories and moments can’t be expressed by words. Most people keep their doors open all the time, I’ve slept with my door open on many occasions. This is the open and welcoming atmosphere we keep in our house. Everyone is hanging out when they want to, but when you want your alone time, that is still very possible. It is an environment where you can close your door and study efficiently, but when it comes time to take a break you won’t have any trouble finding someone to spend time with.
Generally, you can find/make whatever you want. If you want people to stay up late with you and talk for hours, you can do that. If you wanna turn in early you can do that as well. Wanna play beach volleyball? Good thing we have a court. Wanna set up a projector and couches in our basement and have a movie night with your friends? We have the facilities for that. It is a constant atmosphere of freedom because you have the ability to do what you want because rather than living with strangers, you live with your favorite people.
I hope that I have given everyone a better idea of what Phi Psi is all about. It goes so much deeper than I could ever explain in this letter, but I do hope to have helped. If anyone has any further questions, please feel free to reach out to me.

"I joined because I found the greatest group of guys I’ve ever met. I was never too interested in joining Greek life, but the environment I found at phi psi was safe, productive, and the most fun I had ever had."
"I joined because I wanted a brotherhood that I knew would last after I graduated. Phi Psi welcomed me in when I was a freshman and I have felt at home ever since."
"I joined because I wanted to create new honest and meaningful relationships. I wanted to be apart of a group of people I feel can make a positive impact on each other through our college years and beyond. I felt it was a place where I can be my truest self and learn so much about people that may be completely different."
"Entering college far from home in the middle of the pandemic with no connections to western PA, I was able to find a unit of men whose company I enjoyed and whose bonds were strong. Growing up as an only child, I had always wanted brothers and I’m happy to have created such a foundation with people who care about me. "
